Semarang: Chilling around Cimory on The Valley Side

If you’re going to Ambarawa from Semarang, then you’ll find Cimory restaurant’s at the left side of the road. It’s very easy to find, since it has this huge sign “CIMORY” so you wouldn’t miss it. If you afraid would miss it, just remember that the location is near the hospital (Rumah Sakit). Since you go pass through it, why don’t you take a rest for a while, take a bite of the food, and enjoy the view? 😉

CIMORY RESTAURANT IS…

Yes! For you who is wandering where the hell you ever heard about Cimory, is actually a yoghurt brand. So this yoghurt brand is also having restaurants. As far as I know, there are 3 Cimory restaurants. One is located in Semarang, and the other two is in Jakarta. There are also different theme for each Cimory Restaurant. Here, the theme is on the Valley Side, since the location is near the valley. The same characteristic is that each Cimory restaurants always has this enormous size and the view is always beautiful.

Benar!

THE RESTAURANT

If you’re going to Cimory, then it is a must to try their delicious restaurant. They mainly sell Indonesian and Western food that you could try. The restaurant itself kinda big with green scenery around.

Food

Tape Goreng

Eventhough the “Tape” is not that sweet, but it’s still delicious plus the outer skin is so crunchy.

Meskipun tapenya tidak terlalu manis, tetapi rasanya masih enak dan tepungnya pun sangat renyah!

Potato Wedges

The potato taste really delicious, plus there’s cheese topping above it! *Super love*

Kentangnya rasanya enak banget, plus terdapat topping keju diatasnya! *suka banget!*

Beverages

Taro with Bubble – IDR 16,000

Serve with vanilla ice cream, this beverages is a must-try. The taro is really smooth, and I super love the combination of vanilla ice cream with the taro. Taste superb & I can’t resist it at all. Unfortunately, I don’t get any bubble because it’s out of stock.

Ronde

I’m not a fan of ginger. That’s why I don’t try this one. My mom eat the Ronde, and she said she loves it! It’s nice to eat Ronde surrounded with the cool weather at Cimory.

Milk – IDR 8,000

This is my favorite drink here! Yes, actually Cimory is not only selling yoghurt – well, yes they are in Supermarket – but in Cimory Restaurants, ordinary milk cow is also available and trust me it’s so yummy and natural!

You can also purchase the milk in a large bottle in their supermarket.

THE RANCH

After fulfilling your tummy, you can go to the ranch to look or feed the cow. Yes, there are four cows in the ranch, waiting for your visit!

Becareful though, it’s kinda smell bad and the cow is somehow keep groaning “MOOO” and it’s a bit scary. Still, I’m a bit starstruck because I never seen a real cow before. To my surprise, it has this black dot in their white skin. Yes, all of cows that produce milk always have those colour with the dots.

THE VIEW

After visiting the cow, then you could go around the garden. There are some plantation here that you can look at. You can wear this farmer hat while looking around. It’s kinda cute, you know, acting like a farmer and stuffs.

THE SUPERMARKET

Finish circling around at the bottom, then you can go back again to the restaurant area, and head straight to the supermarket near the exit. They sell quite a lot of stuffs here. Of course, you can find yoghurt, original cow-milk, soya milk, and other kinds of milk produced by Cimory. Else, you also can buy some chips and Cimory souvenirs.

THE SOON-TO-BE-OPEN TENANT

I spot that they’ll be open Chocomory (a chocolate stall). How do I know it’s chocomory? Well, because they already have one stall in Cimory Jakarta, that’s why I know it. Ready to visit? ;p

Siap berkunjung kesini? ;p

Ambarawa: Gua Maria Kerep, a Place to Travel and Pray

I know this post may sound too religious, and believe me, it’s not what I meant – at all – I only share this post because this place has a beautiful scenery and peaceful pray area. For you who are Catholics and want to pray for a well, happily ever after journey along the way, this place is a perfect choice. The location is in Ambarawa, and just ask people around to get to this place. Ambarawa people definitely know about it.

Masyarakat Ambarawa pasti tahu mengenainya.

The entrance door

WHAT IS OUTSIDE

When you get here, you can park your vehicle in the available parking space. Outside, you can find small stalls that sell Jesus cross, candle, fresh flowers, and other religioius things as souvenirs and to pray.

WHAT IS INSIDE

After you bought everything, you can go inside. There actually three main places here, which are prayer’s place, statues area + garden, “Jalan Salib” (I don’t know the english term for this).

The Map

PRAYER’s PLACE

Prayer’s place also consists of three main parts. First location is in front of the Holy Mary. It’s the largest prayer’s place in here, since the name itself is Holy Mary’s Cave. People usually brought candle and flower, place it in the bottom of Holy Mary, sit, and then pray. After the pray, you can wash your face or even drink the water near the Holy Mary area. There’s a believe that the water there can cure your illness, and makes you forever young.

Tempat berdoa sendiri terdiri atas 3 tempat utama.

The prayer’s location

Second location, just next to the Holy Mary is in front of Jesus. The place is kinda small, and there are no sitting places. You just can stand there while praying. The Jesus statue is pretty big and the colour is really nice. It looks like new and just furnished.

If you already pray to both of Them but still unsatisfied, you can join another prayer inside a small room to pray together, and sometimes with the Priest there too.

JESUS’ AND FRIENDS STATUE

If you already pray, then it’s time to look around! There’s a one large garden where you can found a lot of statues there. With the outdoor location, this place look so beautiful, bright, and peaceful. You can take a lot of pictures here. Feel free to enjoy your time!

Nikmatilah waktumu!

THE SUGGESTION

If you want to go here, I suggest you went to Ambarawa Train Museum first (If you’d like to) and go here in the afternoon instead. Why? To get the train ticket for the old train at Ambarawa. See more on the Ambarawa Train Museum post!

Ambarawa: Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa, Tut Tut Tut!

To my surprise, Indonesia actually have a Train Museum – like, a big and old one – in Ambarawa area. The name itself represents the location, which is “Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa” or in English it’s “Ambarawa Train Museum”. You can found it near the Tank Statue, turn right, where you’ll find a bus parking area, keep straight until there’s a railway in front of the market. That’s the location. There will be this parking guy that will guide you to park your car.

THE ENTRANCE

As usual, we need to buy the entrance ticket to enter Ambarawa museum. 1 person can buy up to 4 tickets in one time. So if you’re 5 or more people, don’t just assign 1 person to buy the ticket. For you who wants to board the old train, the ticket for that is sold inside.

Loket penjualan tiket

THE AMBARAWA TRAIN MUSEUM

Actually, if you go inside, it’s not actually a museum. It’s more like a train storage. You’ll feel amazed and definitely interested because it’s not like other museum you’ve ever seen before. There’s no fancy walls, hall, and other indoor area there. It’s outdoor and totally an open area, with a railway, some old train that doesn’t work again but looks really cool, and an old look alike train station – the place that will allow you to try and board the old train to get around Ambarawa –

You can see the old wheel train, the old train carriage, and also the body of the train. Feel free to look around, touches everything, and take pictures of everything! You even can pose in the middle of the railway if you want! Just have fun and let your imaginations go wild in the pictures, okay?

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you much about the scenery and what it feels like to board the old train. I don’t get a chance to even try to board it once. 😦 See the reason on the suggestion part below.

Lihatlah alasan kenapa aku nggak sempat naik kereta tua dibagian saran ya 🙂

This is what the train looks like!

THE SUGGESTION

My suggestion for you is only one. Don’t go there on the afternoon like I do. Go there on the morning, especially if it’s on weekends / holiday. Why? It’s so damn crowded with a lot of people and you’re most likely can’t board the old train – the queue is just too long until it’s making a long snake shape queue –
I don’t get to board the old train because of that. At that national holiday, I reached the place at exactly 10.45 a.m and finally give up to get the train ticket – just imagine how long the queue is! –

Besides, as far as I know, the train only operates 3 times a day (on 11 p.m, 1 p.m, and 3 p.m) So eventhough you manage to bought the tickets after a long queue, it might be for the 3 p.m train. For me who reach the place at 10.45 a.m and get the 3 p.m clock, it’s not worth the wait. I still have so many places to go, so I don’t take it. If you have a lot of time, maybe time doesn’t matter, right?
Well, I hope this suggestion helpful and you guys could make it!

So yes, I got another lesson from here. Things can’t be predicted while you’re travelling. Just keep cheering and craving for more adventure ahead!

Ambarawa: Candi Gedong Songo, Temples on The Mountain!

After circling around Semarang, I don’t feel it’s enough and therefore, I’m continuing my journey to Ambarawa. Anyway, I haven’t talk to you about the culinary in Semarang right? Let me finish my journey first in Ambarawa, and then I’ll give you spoiler about what to eat in Semarang ! 😉
Ambarawa can be reached for about 2 hours from Semarang by car. The road to Ambarawa is kinda small and it’s really curvy (like mountain – curvy) because the location of Ambarawa itself is near the mountain.
If you go to Ambarawa, then you shouldn’t and mustn’t miss GEDONG SONGO TEMPLE, one of the tourist attractions that is really gorgeous in here. It is located almost at the very top, so just continue driving your car until you see the big sign “Candi Gedong Songo”. There are plenty local people in front of the gate, so you wouldn’t miss the sign. If you worried / confused, then ask the local about the location, they all know where it is.
Terdapat banyak orang lokal menunggu didepan gerbang, jadi nggak mungkin kamu melewatinya. Kalau bingung / khawatir tersesat, cobalah bertanya pada orang sekitar, mereka semua tau kok dimana lokasinya.

Pintu Masuk
Hungry? There are several choices of food too!
As usual, before going in, you need to pay for the entrance fee. Then, you can go inside the place. Inside, you will found a “Horse-Tour Package” to go around Ambarawa. My suggestion is you take the tour.
Seperti biasanya, kamu perlu membeli tiket masuk.

WHY TAKE THE HORSE-TOUR?

One reason, The place is just too damn big
Gedong Songo Temple is really huge! If you want to take a walk, it will be a total of 4 kilos, not to mention the climbing part, the forest, the unknown part, and others. If you ride a horse + there’s someone to guide you around, it’ll be nicer, right?
Besides, In my opinion, the price of the horse-tour is really affordable & it’s a new experience. You’ll also be taught on how to ride a horse.
Satu alasannya, tempat ini terlalu besar.
Candi Gedong Songo sangat luas!

THE TOUR AROUND AMBARAWA

The tour takes about 1 hour in total. This is assuming that you won’t take pictures around – which is absolutely impossible – If you take photos, then it depends on how fast you take it.

Horse riding!
The view in the tour
What I can say is the tour was incredible. You’ll ride a horse and see all of the 9 temples. Some of them already in the form of ruins because of the earthquakes and another thing happenned here.

Me and my mom around the temple!
A lot of fog, the weather isn’t really nice.
If you see around, especially when you’re in the top of the place, you can witness Ambarawa + Semarang city below. It’s really breath-taking and unforgettable.

Magnificent right?
That little building there is the city! Look how small it is!
Unfortunately, the weather is not that good when I’m there, it’s start raining – so badly – and I even get stuck in Temple IX because of it. Again, because of the rain I’m having difficulties in taking pictures because my camera doesn’t have any water-resistant spec. and I’m also covered with raining coat.
Waiting for the rain in nearby “Warung”
I feel that I want to re-visit Ambarawa and re-wind this journey! The horse-owner / guide says that if you want to have a very nice, dry, but very hot weather you should visit Gedong Songo on August. The weather will totally be perfect and 0 chance of rain!

Look at us, we’re covered with rain coat!

OTHER FACILITIES IN AMBARAWA

– Camping Facilities

The place near Candi IX in Gedong Songo is usually use as a camp place. There are lots of backpacker communities or even high schooler events that take place in Gedong Songo. It’s nice though, because the weather is really cool, and the view is magnificent. However, be patient, because there’s no phone signal up there, honey!

Tempat Camping

– Outbond

Around Candi IV, you’ll find some nets and also other facilities for outbond. The location of the outbond itself is near the forest. I bet it’ll be really fun to have an outbond there!

You might not see it, but the outbond is around here somewhere

– Hot Tub

There’s also a sulfur hot tub in the middle of the place. If you smell sulfur and there’s a smoke, then you already in the right place. Find the hot tub house and have a shower if you want. Some says that the water + sulfur can cure skin illness.
The location is very near the hot tub

TRAVEL TIPS

– The weather is a bit cold up there, so you might want to bring jacket or another warm clothes if you like. Sweater is kinda cute, too! ;p
– Prepare water. Like, a lot. It’s cold and the weather is dry. You need to drink lots and lots of water.
– If you want to explore more, I suggest you book a hotel nearby, just like me. I live in Hotel Rawa Pening for one day. It’s a good choice and affordable too. The location is also near the tourist places around Ambarawa.
– Udaranya cukup dingin disini, jadi bawalah jaket atau pakaian hangat lainnya. Sweater juga lucu, lho! ;p
– Siapkan air, yang banyak! Udaranya dingin dan kering. Kamu wajib minum banyak air.

Tips:

Details and logic matters!! Sometimes, the answer is just on the very little things, trust me.

Kusuma Agrowisata: Hydroponic Garden in Batu City

If you are bored of going to the shopping malls, beach, mountains, or other usual recreational area, maybe you can try to go to Kusuma Agrowisata in Batu. Here, you can pick some apples in the garden, enjoy the fresh air that’s free from pollution, and enjoy some snacks.
Yes. Live, Laugh, Love!

Directions:

You can get here from Surabaya or Malang area.
From Surabaya, you will found a sign to the right that shows Kusuma Agrowisata. Take that turns and you will find Kusuma Agrowisata

KUSUMA AGROWISATA

Introduction

There are actually two places of Kusuma Agrowisata (KA), but both of them belongs to the same owner.
I happenned to go to the upper KA (with the big strawberry near the entrance), but then I need to transfer to the bottom part of KA to pick the apples and guava.
Both of them also having the same package price, which is IDR 50,000 and also IDR 65,000

What is the differences between them?

The one that I visit, which is the upper KA (with the big strawberry) offers this kind of package
Whereas the lower KA, offers food like toast and fried rice besides pudding, juice, and hydroponic vegetables.
So it’s up to you what to choose!

Note: if you want to taste a very delicious meatballs called “BAKSO JEMPOL” then just go to the upper KA, hahaha! Read the review about it below! 😉

The reason why I go to the upper KA?

Well, it’s very simple. I just don’t know that KA has two places!
So yes, let me talk about the upper KA, the one that I visit.
Near the entrance

The Journey

I went into this place and bought the tickets for IDR 50,000 each person. Yes, I take the first package.
After that, a guide will accompany you to look around the garden.
From the story, KA is using hydroponic method to grow its vegetables and fruit. The differences between hydroponic and the usual method is that with hydroponic, there are no chemicals involved, the size of the vegetables and fruits can be bigger, and its purely using water.
Hydroponic method
At that time, I am the one who start the conversation with the guide, as he looks really shy. Maybe he’s still new. So don’t be afraid to ask questions since you’ve paid for the whole package ;). Finish hearing the story, you will be arrived at the hydroponic vegetables station, where you can choose your pack and bring it home. Remember, it’s already included in the package, so you don’t need to pay anything more!
The journey continue to the outdoor garden where they are also growing its vegetables and fruits all over the place. It’s so green and I can feel the fresh air! It’s so refreshing and it’s a new experience for me.
Finish going around, the guide will take you back into the restaurant near the exit door. Here, you’ll be given a strawberring pudding and also juice. Trust me, the juice taste really fresh and delicious! Too bad the portion is really small, hahaha!
From here, to go to the garden and pick the apple, you need to transfer to the lower part or the other place of KA. It’s so near and only takes about 5-10 mins walk. I choose to go here by our car though, so we don’t need to go back again to pick the car.
The other KA has a larger area than the upper one. It also consist of villas, entertainment areas, outbond facilities, and others. You need to go to the information centre, and give your tickets here. Then, you’ll receive a guidance / directions where to go afterwards. Just follow it, and you’ll be totally fine.

The guava garden

First stop will be to pick the guava. You’ll arrive at this huge garden full of guava tree. According to the package, you only can pick maximum two guavas and bring it home. There are no strict supervision from the guard, but please be honest to yourself, okay?
Me picking the guava

The apple garden

Second stop will be the apple garden. To go here, you can ride some kind of an elf (small bus) that will stop right in front of the garden.
Riding the elf
You can see this beautiful waterpark right in front of the elf stop. Stunning with the mountain view, isn’t it?
Wish I have time to play around!
There are actually a lot of apple gardens around, but most of them is closed. The supervision is more strict in the apple garden, as you’re not allowed to go beyond the border that is made from a rope. The rule is the same. Pick maximum 2 apples that you can bring home.
Finish picking apples
Overall, I have no idea that picking apple and also guava can be so much fun!
Besides picking those two delicious fruits, my friends and I also get to know a lot of new things!
Can you guess? Is it an apple or a guava? 😉

BONUS

A selfie bonus??
Of course not!!
As I promise, I’ll be discussing about Bakso Jempol!
A surprisingly delicious meatball “JEMPOL” found in front of the upper Kusuma Agrowisata.
After enjoying the pudding and juice, we supposed to go into the lower one.
But then, my friend spot a meatball stall in front of KA, then we stop by to eat it.
Amazing findings:
1. The owner of Bakso Jempol is a very old guy, age 75. He’s been selling this meatballs since in his twenties.
2. This honorable man doesn’t use any MSG in his meatballs. (Yes, it’s true. I can taste it)
3. You can pick whatever you want all by yourself and also calculate what you eat by yourself. Once again, be honest, okay?
Super clean, right? Taste great too!
I really love the taste, especially the “gorengan”. Surely will eat this meatball again if I visit KA!
Even if you don’t go to KA, you can still stop by because the location is near the parking lot of KA and it’s super easy to be reach.
See you guys in another trip!

Save earth, okay?

Eco Green Park: It’s Not Just a Park!

If you’re going to Batu City, East Java, you will found a lot of attractions there.
There are Jawa Timur Park 2, Batu Night Spectacular, Museum Angkut, and also Eco Green Park.
Eco Green Park is kinda new, and I also a bit underestimating it because its name, which is Eco Green Park. Feel lame, isn’t it?

I can tell you my thoughts – and maybe yours too – is totally wrong! Eco Green Park is totally a great Park to hang out with friends, especially with family and your precious little kids. You can teach your little kids a lot of things while in here. Even us, the teenagers, also learn a looottt of new things here.

Near the entrance

Directions:

You can reach Batu City from Malang or Surabaya. It takes approx. 1-2 hours to reach Batu.
Before you see Jawa Timur Park 2, there will be a little sign near the tree on the right which says “ECO GREEN PARK -> ” and you’ll need to turn right after seeing the directions.
You can found a lot of villas and hotels in Batu area, so no need to worry 😉

ECO GREEN PARK

The Rate

As per December 2014, the rate for weekdays (Mon – Thurs) is IDR 45,000 and weekend (Fri – Sun) is IDR 60,000. Yes, I personally think it’s really affordable since you won’t need to pay anything else inside. Except for foods, beverages, and also if you wish to use the vehicle there.

Posing again near the entrance!

To Ride

When you enter Eco Green Park, the road will directly split into two. You will need to choose whether you want to go right of left. I choose right. It doesn’t matter though, because you’ll finally go all around Eco Green Park both ways.

1. Learning the earth

Take your time about 15 – 20 minutes for this ride. The train moves really slow, and there will be a story about the earth. From the very begginning, until human came and kind of destroying the earth (Well, I must admit that’s true) also teach us how to avoid it and save our earth.

On the train!

2. 360 degree movie

It’s about 10 – 15 minutes movie about “Hanoman”, it’s like a human monkey originated from Indonesia. I also doesn’t really understand the story because the sound is not really clear and it’s a mix with Javanese Languange.

Note : Both rides are using Bahasa Indonesia, but you can try to grasp what it means by looking at the picture.

3. Weather / Disaster Simulation

There are 3 kinds that we can really try on our own, which are earthquake, wind and ice / winter.
It’s really fun and worth to try 😉
Disaster like Tsunami, Fire, can also be seen but you can’t involve directly in it.

Posing inside some educational house there. FYI, all things in this place is made from recycle products!

To see

1. Upside down House (Rumah Terbalik)

It’s really fun inside here! You can pose a lot of crazy pose and it’s all with a trick!
If you’re lucky like me, the only one guide there will approach you and accompany you to see around.
This guide will show you all of the hidden trick to get a super duper crazy photos!!
I went to Eco Green Park on Friday, and there are only few people there. That’s why it’s not that crowded and I can pose freely.

Oh yeah I’m a spy!!

Acrobat 😉

Yes I can stand in 1 finger!!
As a bonus, in the end you’ll find a confusing mirror house to reach the exit. Thank you, Mr. Guide! You are really nice and we all really happy because of you!!

Cool photos inside the mirror house

2. Some educational area

There are some educational area such as the replica of some houses and traditional work that people in Indonesia has back then.

The minion of the house. No, I won’t destroy it. Trust me, it’s just an act, hahaha!

Besides, there are also some temples replica like Prambanan Temple, Mendut Temple, and even you can found Borobudur Temple Replica in here. So you doesn’t need to go directly into Yogyakarta to show Borobudur to your kids. Simply go here and you can show all temples in Java island to your kids and even to yourself, haha!

Temple Replica
Am I look like a model yet? 😉

There are also animals area such as reptile, birds, and others. You can see around while looking at the display name and information about each of the animals.

Posing near the bird sections

3. Other show & small museums

There are also some show (e.g. bird show) in Eco Green Park, but I don’t get to see it. It’s too bad that I haven’t finish exploring the rest of Eco Green Park because it’s raining, and I run real fast until the exit so I won’t get wet 😦

We should watch the bird show here 😦

See you again, Eco Green Park!

What else you can expect in Batu:

Go to the Alun-Alun Batu (it’s kind of a square which you can found a lot of food stall that mainly sell traditional food there) and try the milk there! It’s really famous and you’ll love the taste 🙂
